The Cottage, My Date, Nasty Coyotes, And Me…Not a Good Situation…
--
It took Ben Sherman almost a year to score a date with Maureen (Mo) Heit. He had met her at his office and there was great chemistry. The problem was Mo was involved in a relationship with a Lawyer from Woodspoon, Thomas, Veillieux a competing firm. The guy she was seeing on a steady basis was Hal Windlim and Ben thought he was a dick. They had gone to law school together and Ben was certain he had never met a bigger megalomaniac than Hal Windlim. The guy was the ultimate shmuck, he paid people in their law class to do his pro-bono work because he didn’t want to deal with riff-raff.
Ben was fascinated with how Maureen had gotten involved with Windlim. Hal spent most of his time admiring himself, how had he snared such an incredible woman?
Maureen was a brilliant lawyer and Ben was very careful to never cross the professional and personal line at the office. Things changed when Mo and Hal moved in together. It didn’t take Maureen long to realize that Hal was a self-serving shmuck. He treated her like his personal maid and constantly spoke down to her. The straw that broke the camel’s back came when Maureen’s parents came to visit the condo she was sharing with Hal. After they left, Hal questioned her Father’s intelligence’’ and her Mother’s ‘’hygiene.’’
Ben was working in his office when Mo walked in and sat across from him. ‘’I have had a shitty week, how long are you going to be before you’re ready to call it a day?’’ Ben looked at his computer, he had six emails to respond to and a few calls he needed to make. ‘’Why you asking?’’ Maureen shook her head and her beautiful long black hair worked itself free from the constraints that had kept it in place and it cascaded down her neck to her shoulders. She really was a very attractive woman. ‘’Cause if you haul butt, I’ll buy you a drink at the Exchange.’’ The Exchange was a popular bar around the corner. ‘’Uh, I can be finished in five minutes. You never offer to buy me a drink what’s the occasion?’’ Maureen laughed ‘’A celebration of my freedom. Hal Windlim is a past mistake and I can now move forward.’’ Ben turned off his computer and stood up. ‘’In that case, everything will wait, let’s get Rocking!’’
As they walked across the street and around the corner to the bar, Ben couldn’t help…
