Mrs. Crosby was teaching Anchient History and she stopped in the middle of class and looked over at Alan Koenig. ‘’Mr. Koenig, I have a feeling you aren’t paying enough attention, what are you thinking about right now?’’ There were snickers from Koenig’s eleventh grade classmates. ‘’Uh, I was thinking about how long it takes history to be considered ancient. As an example, you are talking about the Romans and Greeks, and the tenth century, but to someone like me, the Inquisition of 1492 also is ancient, so how do you determine between what is really ancient and ancient?’’ Mrs. Crosby smiled. ‘’I want you to come talk to me after school. Mr. Koenig, pay more attention.’’ Alan’s classmates were making ooh’s and ah’s, like he was in trouble.
When class ended everyone was filing out and Mrs. Crosby didn’t take her eyes off Alan. It was bizarre. He tried to get out the door before she could say anything to him. He knew one thing for sure, he wasn’t going back to meet her after school. He had a gazillion more important things to do.
