It was supposed to be a simple and quick excursion

Richie Diskin loved cruising. It was his favourite thing to do in the world. Richie worked in Footwear for a Bon-Ton Store in Buffalo, New York. In other words he was a woman’s shoe salesman.

He saved for his holidays and always booked a ten day cruise from Fort Lauderdale. He would fly Spirit Airlines from Buffalo and when he arrived he would be in vacation mode.

Richie was thirty five and told people he met on cruises that he was in footwear design which was kind of the truth. He had to know different styles. He wished he was lighter, and even though he walked around the ship sixteen times a day, he ate more than he was losing. He had never met a meal he didn’t like. He had a bright red beard and his hair was starting to vanish off the top of his head.

One of Richie’s goals was to meet the right woman, someone who would understand him, but it had been an almost impossible task. None of the women he dated seemed to get that he was satisfied working in shoes. His Mom and Dad had always said that the right woman would love him for him, but he wondered if they were wrong.

The cruise he was on was going to cover the Western Caribbean. There would be a stop at the beautiful island of Labadee in Haiti.
