When I was nineteen years old and in my first year of university, I was invited to the Ottawa Jewish Community Centre to attend a ‘’reading’’ by Issac Bashevis Singer.

I went figuring it would be an evening of boredom. I had much respect for Mr. Singer’s work, but it didn’t sound like the kind of event that would stimulate and excite.
